The “Thieves Oil” myth thoroughly debunked.

In my various natural foods store jobs, I’ve always had people rave about a multi level marketed product that allegedly was used by thieves in 1400’s Europe to protect themselves from Bubonic Plague and other antigens. While this blend of Essential Oils is certainly a nice blend, and Essential Oils do help protect plants (and often us too) from various antigens, the blend called “Thieves Oil” could NOT have possibly been used in 1400’s Europe. A basic knowledge of botany and history would reveal why; One of the oils in this blend is Eucalyptus Oil. Eucalyptus, a native tree genus of Australia and adjacent areas, was not existent in Europe in any form, according to any records, until at least the late 1700’s. I have not yet seen any reliable evidence to the contrary. Because of this inconvenient fact, this destroys the notion that this blend of oils could have possibly been used in 1400’s Europe! End of rant! ;)
