DISCLAIMERS and Important info

At this point, I won’t be asking for preregistration at most locations, but it’s nice to let me know that you are showing up, especially if you are showing up with a group. PLEASE try to avoid contentious arguments about various issues or agendas. My events are all about learning about local wild plants and their uses and not other agendas-please respect that. Basically I just want everyone to feel comfortable and safe and to have a good time and a nice learning experience.

Also I do put a premium value on my free time. I’m a nice guy (I think) but unless we are good fwends, we work together, or I’m at work or one of my events, I don’t give out free consultations, and even then, since I’m not a doctor, nothing I say should be taken as medical advice. Nice people have to set healthy boundaries sometimes. :)

DISCLAIMERS and more-note, participation in these walks and events requires that we all can acknowledge that we are all responsible for our own safety.

1) Please always make sure you are positively identifying a plant before consuming any portion of it. Make sure you do not confuse an edible or medicinal plant for a poisonous lookalike. Don’t rely on plant ID forums on social media-instead, use reliable sources for ID.

2) Nothing I say or write about should be interpreted as being any sort of claim or medical advice. I go out of my way to ensure the accuracy of what I write or talk about, including information about traditional and modern uses, but in no way do I make claims regarding a plants interaction with you. I’m not a doctor, and even if I was, I know that we are all very different physiologically. Please be skeptical of those who make excessive claims-especially now.

3) It’s usually illegal to harvest plants from public lands without a permit.

4) Please respect the diverse viewpoints, experiences, and people who attend these events.

ABOUT:

On this website, I will list the events that I do-Herb Walks, Botanical Adventures, Lectures, Classes, and much more. This is a work in progress since it’s my first ever website. Stay tuned.

For now, just click on the sections you might be interested in. I’m listing a schedule of events, a blog (my opinions and rants about all sorts of things, but mostly herb related. If I post anything controversial, remember, it’s just my own perspective-everyone is invited on these walks-just be respectful), and plant photos with descriptions (adding details with time and making sure the info is accurate and not too claim-ish). I’ll be adding much more info with each picture soon. I do private group walks too….

PRIVATE GROUP HERB WALKS: I love doing private group herb walks for people who are interested in this sort of thing. For these, the group can choose any natural reasonably biodiverse location or a botanic garden. If you have lots of wild plants on your property, that would work too. If a location doesn’t allow for these events, we can choose an alternative. All private group walks are $50 an hour for the group (not per person) for 2-3 hour walks (2 hour minimum) plus reasonable compensation for gas if the location is over 25 miles from West Los Angeles (where I live).

I’m back on Facebook with my nickname, Bill Broen. Also, check out my FB group if you are on there-“William Broen’s Herb Walks”. This website is always the best place to get my herb walk info though.
I do take PayPal-PayPal.Me/WilliamBroen cash or check is also accepted.

All photos (except the photo of the group on a Griffith Park herb walk) are taken by me unless otherwise indicated.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1) How much are the walks? They vary in price. The ones I do on my own are $15-20 suggested donation for my time and effort. Private group walks are $50 an hour plus gas (if the walk is over 20 miles from West Los Angeles). The walks at botanic gardens are usually $30 a person (they pay a portion of that to me of course).

2) How do we pay? At the moment cash or check for the ones I do on my own or private group walks. I also take PayPal PayPal.Me/WilliamBroen. For the botanic gardens who I do the walks through, contact the garden that is putting it on.

3) Are kids allowed? Most walks are designed for adults but kids are welcome if they are interested in the subject and aren’t disruptive (out of respect to other attendees). I also have done private group walks that are more geared towards a younger audience.

4) Are pets allowed? Some locations like Topanga and Big Morongo don’t allow pets. Otherwise as long as they are definitely not at all disruptive, they are welcome. Please ask ahead of time. Thank you.

5) How do I know of a walk or event has been cancelled? I try my best to always do the walks as scheduled, but particularly in this unique time, I may have to postpone some events and reschedule them for future dates. I will always post in both the schedule and blog sections if a walk is postponed or cancelled. If you prepay with PayPal, I will refund the money if an event is postponed or you can use it for the next event you attend.
Besides pandemic related postponements (I’ll let you know if these happen), heavy rain, excessively muddy trails, park closures, emergencies on my end (and really only actual emergencies-I don’t flake on these), a rangers request to postpone or cancel, fires, and really not many other reasons, will cause an event to be postponed. I appreciate everyone’s kindness, support, and patience during these uniquely bizarre and tense times and circumstances.
